wear a mask or pay: south beach officers will ticket holiday patrons who aren’t wearing masks!

Miami Beach City Manager Jimmy Morales will allow law enforcement to issue citations to patrons and residents who refused to wear masks. The enforcement, which begins Wednesday, is in response to the anticipation of a high number of visitors for Thanksgiving weekend.

“We recognize that under the governor’s order, we cannot collect any fine or penalty, but the purpose is more about putting folks on notice and encouraging safe behavior,” Morales said in a statement Tuesday.

Officers will offer the masks, and if one refuses to accept, he or she will then be issued a citation. The enforcement will last throughout the holiday weekend.
